Offroad Ability
Hi All
I'm the proud owner of a 2000 2.7T Tip and I'm loving it
I'm having trouble finding answers to a couple of questions though... Can someone tell me about the 4WD system or point me to a website that explains it? I'm specifically trying to find out what, if any, locking/limited slip diffs etc it has. Also, I know the manual had an low ratio option, but does the Tip have any abilities when it comes to off-roading? I.e. how does it cope with steep descents etc?
Thanks in advance!
Nick

I had trouble even with my manual on steep descents. Damn heavy car. I know the car can handle offroading well and i am sure the auto is ok for hills as well. I mean how many steep descents will you be doing? i wouldnt worry.
As you can see, i put mine through some serious stuff.

Thanks - I've been looking at your photos with glee! Yeah, probably not too many descents, but just interested to know really. I guess if you had trouble with descents, you don't have the low ratio option? When you say LSD is that centre, front, rear or all three? How does it cope with cross-axles for example?
I love this bit from Wikipedia:
... I wonder if there is a write-up of photos from that test course????
Cheers

I love this bit from Wikipedia:
The Allroad was designed with the capability to tackle rough road conditions in mind; its standard adjustable air suspension system can lift the car high enough to provide 21cm (8.3in) of ground clearance and a low-range mode, absent from other quattro-equipped vehicles, can be selected with the touch of a button. When used in conjunction, the two systems made it possible for the Allroad to complete a Land Rover test-course, thus far it is the only car-based SUV that has been proven capable of doing so in testing.
Cheers

i do have the low ratio tranny. its just a heavy car and brakes are still required. These cars are not like jeeps or land rovers but they still do well.
I had opposite wheels in the air at one point and i was teeter tottering and i got through it. It did real well. Would have done better if i had better tires.
I realized i prob could have pushed it more but didnt. It had more in it, but it was a light offroad course so not too much stuff.
