Default Possible Purchase

I am new to the forums but have been looking around for a good bit. I am looking at purchasing a 01 allroad from a family member. It has about 58,000 miles on it and is in pretty good shape and always dealer serviced. I think I can pick it up for around $12,000 from thembut I am seriously considering a warranty from one of the aftermarket warranty places. That would add another $3500 roughly for a bumper to bumper warranty with just a few exclusions.

Seeing as most of these cars have the suspension air bag leakage problems and possible compressor failure resulting from the same, it probably would be a good idea to get the warranty. This would also come in handy if the transmission had any problems as seems can happen frequently with these also. I have to check but I doubt the timing belt has been serviced as of yet either. I think that the warranty would cover this as well.

Does this sound like a good price and plan? I really like the car. Thanks in advance for any input.

I think the price is darn good.... 12 grand!..... I think the idea of the warranty is good in principle but what does it REALLY cover? And..... $3,500 for the warranty????!!! It would want to be good and last for 5 years!

The warranty is for 4 years or 48,000 additional miles and covers pretty much anything except normal maintanence items like hoses, brakes, exhaust, tires, etc... It covers everything except the certain items that it lists out in advance (exceptions) and will include the air bags suspensionand compressor which if they go bad would pay for the warranty right there.

You can't beat $12K and it sounds like you know the history of the car. Another plus is that it's been dealer serviced all it's life.

Yes, you will need to get the timing belt replaced soon and the 70 mileservice is coming up.

Now for the insteresting part: I spoke with my dealer yesterday and he informed me that Audi just started offering an extended warrantee package that covers the car bumper to bumper up to 140,000 miles. It will cost about $3000.

Call your local Audi service rep and he can give you the details.

Otherwise, buy the car, drive it for a few months and sell it at a profit

Best,
Robert

Wow... that is worth checking out depending on what it covers. If you find any info, could you post back here? I'll do the same.

I talked to the local Audi dealer and they said that they didn't have any kind of extended warranty available except for their certified used cars that they sell themselves. They don't offer anything else. I guess I would have to stay with the aftermarket 3rd party warranty.
