Someone explain why your S4 cars are so $$$???
OK, I'm a little confused.
Strike that. A LOT confused.
I've been watching this market for half a year now, gathering money, waiting for the car I want, a 2000 or 2001 S4 6-spd.
I'm watching a LOT of sellers on this forum and the other Audi forums ask MORE THAN RETAIL for cars that are either unmodded or only slightly modded with less than $2,000 or $3,000 in mods??!!
Cars.com, autotrader.com, eBay, these cars are selling between $10,000 for high-mileage to $13,000 for low-mileage EXTREMELY clean cars. $14,000 MAX from dealers even, and people on here are asking $18k to $23k??!!
WTF?
Please explain to me WHY ANYONE would pay $18k for a clean, stock S4 when you could get one from your local dealer for $14k or less??!!
strange...

well one your talking about e-bay , go to auto trader and look on there.
Im selling mine - the one a couple post down for my price because
1.my cars nada value is 15,600 and thats is without the sports package the alcantara seats.
2. all major services have been done like timing belt and plugs.
3.not mentioned in my post but along with my mods i also have the 710 N valves (bypass valves)
4.Closest car to mine on auto trader is 16,900 and it doesn't have the stuff i have on mine
5. My turbos don't whine or howel
6.I'm an audi tech here in albuquerque and fully inspected my car before i purchased it .
You never know what your getting on e-bay , the car could be totally fucked and you would never know it .I started at 17,5 because of the condition mine is in .then after looking i knew i wasnt going to get that.
mods add up
neuspeed exhaust = $692.96
h-sport sway bars = $508.00
Short throw shifter = $199.00
drilled and slotted rotors = $200.00
710 N valves = $80
center vent boost gauge = $150.00
i guess its different for me .Being a tech i know what to look for in a s4 , plus can do a full history on the car at my shop and see exactly what has been done.
like a new clutch at 46k and tranny rebuild at 46k
KBB is $15,730
nada is $15,600
both without sport package and the seats and mods included

ebay is almost wholesale price, that is why everything goes so cheap on it...

Oh yeah, no doubt eBay is wholesale. There was this Stage 3 modded '01 S4 that closed at $13,7 last week and didn't meet the guy's reserve.
I emailed him after the auction, he sent me back his number, said he'd take $14k for it and had it serviced by Audi since day 1 with receipts to prove it, would take me by the dealership when I came to get it, etc, etc. Started scrambling for cash (should have given him a deposit), called him back the next day and he'd sold it for $14,5 to the audi tech. DAMMITT!!! Oh well, what can ya' do?
Actually, watching autotrader.com and cars.com, the lowest-priced B5 S4 is $12,000 out in Oregon, $13,500 up in MN, and $14,000 in NC. All right around 100k miles with regular service, all from dealers.
Private party prices are, of course, higher like I'm seeing here. No argument about price of mods although, from experience modding the 3s cars, you will never, ever, ever get your money back on mods. I urge our members to keep their stock parts and, when it comes time to sell, put them back on, sell the car locally, then sell the parts back to the community on the board classifieds. You'll always make out better.
I've just seen a few non-modded 80k mile vehicles priced at $18k+ and stage 1 or 2 modded cars for $20k+ (one guy even at $23k) and wondering WTF?
