2012 A3 RNS-E retrofit iPod question
Hi, I need help!
I've got a 2012 A3 with the Concert II+ radio, Bose package and the wiring harness in the glove box that is currently plugged into the back of the empty plastic tray (where a changer or AMI would go).
I recently purchased a US version RNS-E nav unit (8P0 035 193B) off of eBay that will arrive any day now. I've done lots of research online and am pretty clear about how to swap out Concert II+ with the RNS-E (switching the pin for BOSE, aux port, vag-com reprogramming, etc..)
The one thing that I'm still not sure about is how to get iPod integration with the RNS-E. Do I need to purchase an AMI unit that I place in the glove box? If so, what is the part number of that unit? If not, what exactly do I have to do to get the iPod to integrate with the RNS-E and display the track name/song title/etc. I know that I don't have to resort to an aftermarket product like a dension or dice adaptor, but beyond that it's not clear.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

The official Audi way is with an AMI unit like this:
Audi Music Interface AMI - A3 A4 A6 TT R8 - RETROFIT INSTALL KIT NEW - RNS-E | eBay
That's the one I bought for my 2010 RNS-e (version 193B I think). Same seller, who was quite excellent, and it's a great price too.
Browse all ipod content using the RNSe screen and controls, installs in the glove compartment where the CD Changer goes.
Works very well. It's a pain to scroll through some of the longer lists (I have 500 artists, 6000+ songs on my ipod), but that's the only drawback I can find to it.
You need to make sure your CAN gateway has the "Media Source 3" or something similar listed as an installation option, but I'm pretty sure you will have it in your 2012. Me with my 2007, I had to swap my gateway for a new one and reprogram it.
