Default A3 1.8T Overheating

Hi there,

I have a problem with my A3, the water temperature starts to rise and the warning computer flashes with the temperature gauge picture even when i am travelling at speed and when I stopped to let it cool and checked under the bonnet, the fans don't seem to have kicked in, I checked all the fuses but all were fine, is there any other reason why the temperature gauge might have risen, the air blowing through the heaters is hot and not cool.

Now because i am travelling at speed (70 mph motorway) I would assume that the airflow hitting the radiator should be enough to cool down the water. Is this right? I was only travelling for 45 mins max when it first started at about 70 mph average speed. It didn't cool it down it just kept alternating going up to 120 and then dropping back to 100.

Is there anything else that might cause this to happen?

any help is muchly appreciated.

Steve
