A3 1997 1.8 Automatic - Jerky Gear Shift...
Back again... with the next problem. I have an Audi A3 1997 as stated imported into New Zealand and it has an old 3 speed gear box.
It's done around 160,000 kms but since it was purchased it has developed a "delay" in changing gears. From Park you can slide it in either Reverse or Drive, and it will take 0.5-0.75 seconds to engage the gear. It's annoying because you can put it in gear, release the foot brake and pump the accelerator but nothing happens until the gear engages and the car jerks into action.
When it's running at low speeds, it also lunges forwards between 1st-to-2nd and from 2nd-to-3rd. Any ideas?
