Default A3 3.2 (2006) Shifter circuit board problem

I parked my A3 3.2 (2006) a few days ago and while putting the shifter from Drive into Park it did not slide smoothly. It then locked into Park and did not want to come out of Park. It would occasional release and slide through the gears but the car would no longer start the the P,R, N, D etc would flash on the dashboard.

My tech hooked it up to a computer which is telling him it is not getting a signal from the shifter telling the car what what gear the shifter is. He thinks it may be a circuit board in the shifter housing causing the problem. Does anyone have any insight to this issue Schematic of the shifter housing circuit board?

There's a circuit board and a slide with magnets to trigger the hall sensors on the circuit board. Sounds like the magnet part came apart and bound up. Only repair is to replace the parts and they're only available as an assembly.
