I'm sure the guys in the A4 forum would argue, but an A4 2.0T with quattro is a heavier car - so if all mods were equal, the A3 2.0T would be faster. And if you got the A3, you'd have the added benefit of driving a better looking car.
This brings up a thought I've had before, and forgive me if this has already been addressed. Is the 2.0T in the A3 identical internally to the 2.0T in the A4? The A3 is tranversal, the A4 is longitudal, correct? And while we're at it, is the A3's 2.0T 20 valves or 16? From what I've read, it should be 16 (identical to the GTI) but I know it has been somewhat of an Audi tradition to have the 20v motors vs. 16v in the V-Dubs. What about the A4's 2.0T (how many valves)?

Many thanks

AFAIK, the internals of the engine are the same. Obviously the exhaust manifold, etc. would be changed to accomidate the engine mounting. All 2.0TFSI engines are 20V at this point. Audi was making engines recently with 5 valves per cylinder for better breathing and performance. We have a similar set-up, but our injectors occupy one of the spots that would be the 5th valve, so ours are only 4 valves per cylinder.

Cheers!
