A3 crash sensor side airbag

A3 crash sensor side airbag
Hi, have an A3 1.8t 5 door registered in 2000 and airbag light has been on for some years and now an MOT fail. Diagnostic gives error codes 01221 and 01222 which I know are crash sensor side airbag on either side, have read a lot of other threads on where to find these for replacement and or repair but nothing seems to match on my vehicle. Have removed floor and pillar trim to expose area
but no sensor is where everyone is suggesting, ie nothing below the seat belt tensioner only a lead with a yellow plug that fits on the left, there is a brass coloured fitting in front which when removed is empty and not sure what this does or if there is something missing.
I have added pictures to help clarify this, am I looking in the wrong place for my model with these sensors? Would be really grateful for any help with this as garages quoting £800 to investigate with no guarantee of a fix, car otherwise in great condition.
