Hi all, I am new to this so sorry for any mistakes. About a year ago I purchase an A3 19.TDI 130bhp with 80,000 miles. Its a great car and goes well, very impressed. The car has just passed 101,000 miles and the gear box has gone. I cannot select gear R, 1, or 2, the gear box on this car has 6 forward gears.

I have taken the car to a garage and have been told that the selector for R, 1, and 2 gears has broken and fallen into the gears.

What are my options, I guess due to the mileage any manufactures warranty has gone. The car was new in 2003. I am surprised that the gear box would go like this.

As you can guess I am looking at a big bill to repair this.

I'd recommend to get a gearbox from a junkyard if you can find one. I'd be a lot cheaper than a brand new one. I've been told that they're good for at least 300.000miles.

 

get it re-conned somewhere
