I have a 2006 A3, manual transmission. ALMOST the perfect car for me but for one issue: the engine is so loud I can hardly speak to the person next to me. I don't recall this being the case until the past year or so. Dealer says live with it. Any one else experience this?

 

Yea mine has a funky sound but not that load I may take it in (warranty)... I don't know I think I will just listen with the engine running...

The only nose that I have is it sounds like a diesel at idol but I knew that when I bought it do to the high compression.

 

Dealer's are kinda sad sometimes, no cel, you car is fine, no matter what you hear or lack of performance you feel.

Did you have a service recently where they replaced the air filter? Maybe they forgot to put the new air filter in? Did something with the exhaust system come loose?

Try to meet up with local A3/Audi owner or independent shop to troubleshoot the loud noise. Hopefully, you are still under warranty and you can take your findings to the dealer.

If you have a bad (locked up) Thermostatic fan clutch it could cause a very loud engine sound but im not for sure if the A3 has a fan clutch or just an electric fan...
