Default A3 & S3

Can any of you fine folk tell me the exact differences between the 2006 A3 and the 2006 S3?

Is it just software and cosmetics or are there fundimental differences in the mechanicals?

Thanks

I'm not sure that there was a 2006 S3, but the one that Audi currently makes has -Upgraded brakes- bigger wheels and tires - firmer, lower suspension - different rods, pistons, head casting - upgraded ECU - Haldex Quattro - nifty seats and steering wheel - and much more. It's only produced in a manual transmission, 2 door model.

Great that's what I needed to know. I saw that it's 2.0T was rated at 265bhp and a fellow Audi enthusiast was swearing it was just soft modded with a better suspension.

I Appreciate it!

You can easily get S3 power levels with software and exhaust mods to an ordinary A3. Audi engineers, I'm sure, wanted to make sure the S3 2.0 would be bulletproof when raced or bumped up over 300bhp. If you do a search, you can probably find the exact list of internal engine mods. It was published with the cars release.

Well my reasoning was I really want to mod the A3 however I do not want to do it at the expense of longevity or the factory warranty. Knowone in the Colorado area (that I know of) has anything near 50k miles with a modded engine so two of the top local guys really do not know the long term effects of softmods.

Heh, ask him how he's planning on retrofitting the haldex. While a simply Revo chip can grant you, claimed 260 ish HP. A chipped (Superchip) S3 can easily reach 300HP.

Not that much over a 3.2 though. With options, close to 60k CND. [:@]

Yeah, and why not get the S4 for the same price? That's probably why they aren't bringing the S3 to the States. They can't sell it for what they need to get back out of it. Purely business reasons.
