A3 & S3
The S3 here would be overkill and would obliterate the sales of 3.2 (do they sell a lot of those anyway?). Yes some people will always want more power so the 3.2 has a market niche but it will be squeezed out. Same at the 2.0T quattro available in Europe, most people would get this over the 3.2 and with the money saved get all the option you need. On the A4 the quattro is basically a $2k option ...
It seems that European brands prefer to limit the availability which makes sense since you have to import them, plus they are able to position each car to the market. Look at VW launching a special 5000 cars only of the R32 readily available in Europe for the2 (?) years? I have not seen the prioce tag on it but it is probably be the same as a basic 3.2, no?
Yes it is all business and they are good at it.

I'm just hoping that the rumor is true about a "Sport" A3 Sportback with an upgraded 2.0T engine and Quattro for the US. That car would be worth purchasing and modding.

Chef’s attempt at humor??? Maybe we should move this post to the twilight section… ***me looking up the twilight section*** nope, no such section but there is a rumor section I guess….
Seriously Chef, if you know something do tell!
I read it somewhere, so it must be true.
Honestly, give mea little time and I'll dig it up. The thought was that the S3 would take too much to Federalize for the US market and there was speculation that they could do a power/performance upgrade to the 2.0T and market that in the 4-door for the US market. Not a true S3, but a boost over the basic.
Cheers!

The only way I can see this is basically importing the S3 which is a 2.0T pimped and do exactly what VW is doing with the R32 - a limited 5000 cars - if you want it get it now deal. This way they don't have to go through all the registration. Isn't that what they are doing with the S4 and S6?
Plus the S3 would be a 2door so it is a special breed, maybe they will call it "Celsius" ....
