A3 TDI - Brake Noise! (2012 - USA)
I have a 2012 A3 TDI. The breaks make a horrid noise, most times.
My dealer tells me that this is normal. I had an A4 for the last week, while the dealer tried to figure out the noise. The A4 does not make the noise.
Is this terrible noise typical of the A3?
Any input?
Thanks!

The brakes are not supposed to make evil noises in any car, and your dealer is just giving you a BS story. Have the pads, rotors, and calipers checked out. It may be that the pads are worn or a caliper not fully releasing. Also check for gravel stuck between the shield and the rotor, as it can make awful noises.
Thanks for your reply. The dealer told me it is "normal for our cars". We went for a short drive in a loaner A3 and it was noisy too. When I just start out, and then "brake", it is really noisy. Or in reverse. It's not that old grinding sound of some German brakes. It is a LOUD squeeking sound. He said something about the way the pads touch the roter, etc. Sounds typical on an old rusty Toyota, but now a new A3!
How about when you first start out, after the car has cooled and been sitting? Ours sounds like the shocks are squeaking too... or when you sit in the car, with the weight of the driver - SQUEAK!
If I put it in reverse, and just let the idle move the car, then push-push-push the breaks making the car rock a little, it squeaks each time I push the breaks.
The "squeak" is not like a squeaky door.... it's more like the sound of shocks.
