Hi guys new to the forum. Just bought a 2013 A3 TDI wagon with 4,000 miles. Took my first trip over the weekend and only got 33mpg???? Using the cruise some of the time and running 75-80 mph. Was expecting somewhere around 40 mpg!! any ideas, maybe something I'm not doing correctly. its an automatic. Thanks

 

I've got teh same car.....when Im on the highway driving those speeds I generally get between 40 and 45.

Add in city and it drops to mid 30's.

Just FYI

 

75-80mph is not the most efficient speed for any vehicle (at least 4/6 cylinder ones), and if you do a lot tailgating/braking it will also wipe out your efficiency. That being said, it might improve when the engine is fully broken in. I'll get 42-43 most trips around 60-70mph, but when I start averaging 80, it will drop to about 38mpg.
