A3 TFSI - Sudden power loss - TPI 2014909/4
I have an A3 2.0 TFSI S-Line DSG on an 06 plate. Occassionally when accellerating I loose power. I keep my foot down but accelleration stops and the car slowly starts to loose speed. If I let it coast for a few while (20-30 seconds) it picks up again and drives normally. I've just had a major service at my dealer and on the health check they wrote the following:
"Loss of power under accelleration. Requires rebooking for further investigation and possibly TPI 2014909/4 carrying out. Replacement of inlet camshaft."
They want £1296 to carry out the investigation and said that it might not cure the problem!
Any ideas on the cause?
Thanks.

The Audi a3 had a big issue (05-07) with the cam follower wearing out prematurely and in a worse case scenario taking the high pressure fuel pump and the camshaft with it.
There is some kind of campaign and reimbursement program going on if you had this happen to you (VWVortex.com - Audi Warranty Extension forms received today! (HPFP/Cam follower))
As you can tell that is not the official link but a forum entry explaining the procedure.
Anyhow I have heard of this many times and in most cases it does result in loss of power or if you wait too long - undriveable car. You can also check out: 16471/P0087/000135 - Ross-Tech Wiki
I replaced my cam follower (costs about 50 bucks) when I hit 60k miles so I don't have to deal with all this BS.
Good luck.
