Default Aluminium Roof Rails

Does anyone know where I can get a set of the Aluminium Roof Rails for my US model A3 3.2 Quattro Sportback? They are available as an option on the german website for $270 EUR but I can't find them here in the United States. Any help would be appreciated for this Audi Newbie. Thanks all!

I'm about to put in an order for an A3 - and have been researching this very topic - I was hoping to find someone that had special ordered roof rails already (if you have - please post here!!)

In a few countries you can order the rails - for about $500 it looks - and option codes are the same as Porsche's and VW's.
Here's the link to the options page in New Zealand, for example:

http://www.audi.co.za/a3sportback/_a...kPriceList.pdf

In theory you need to order this with a new car - with an SPO.
The part number is:

3S1 bright roof rails

----- but ---- from another Audi forum I found this information.... the parts numbers for the rails and attachment hardware (hold onto your wallet):

left rail: 8p4-860-021-G-2zz
right rail: 8p4-860-022-G-2zz

list price is $465 per rail or $930/pair

parts required to install them:
4f9-861-195-d (8) balancer element, mechanical $9/ea list
n-905-708-02 (8) hex nut $.22 each list

----- but ------

I haven't seen anyone confirm that they were able to order a new car with the rails attached at the factory.

The roof rails will be available for purchase in the U.S., but they are not available yet. The price for the rails and hardware will be $836.90 shipping included in the U.S. That price will be good at my dealership. Normal dealer list would be $1,023.76.

Nice to know.

I've done more research - these roof rails are not similar to what appears on the various avant's, like the A4. They sit flush against the roof. They look very nice, but my main reason for getting them was for a more streamlined crossbar system for bicycle racks - than the fairly cumbersome Lysfstyle Roof Rack. The only accessories I could find for these were on the UK audi site - and those crossbars are just as tall and bulky as what we can buy here already. I also don't want to get something that will prevent me from adding a cool roof rack if one comes out.

So my order tomorrow will not mention roof rails Maybe by the time my car arrives in 3 months there willb e some good options.

-cheers

IMO it's not a great idea to have these installed unless it was done at the factory.

Especially with open sky.

Just fyi... The factory votex carrier bars install in about 5 minutes.

Hi RyanA3-

We're in agreement. I'd rather have the rails installed in the building process at the factory rather than ripping out headliners and drilling through roofs after-the-fact. AUDI USA seriously needs to "push" these rails more because my salesman didn't know anything about them when I ordered the car the other day. I'm guessing they're made of stainless steel or some other scratch-free material that owners don't have to worry about too much. It's one of those options where one has to be "in the know" to get it!

That's how I got mine. Ordered from the factory. Luckily I had a salesman in the know. They were only a $500 option for Chrome in California. Love having them. I've hated messing with mounting feet on my bicycle racks over the years on other cars. ALways scratches the paint. Hassle to take on and off.

Hi Jefferson-

Do the rails look like they'll prevent damage to your A3 paint as far as you can tell? Do you theorize the rails would be compatible with other bike carriers, or does it work with the specific Audi bike rack? I'm very interested to hear!
