Hi,

I have been reading this forum for quite some time now, but have recently run into a problem with my blower fan on my 1997 Audi A3 and need help!

It started making a "whirring" noise, almost as if the fans were touching plastic, but also worked perfectly on occasion. Now it often doesn't work at all, sometimes works with the noise and other times works 100%.

After researching, I have read that it may be the resistor pack. I took off the glove box yesterday and had a look at it. Nothing seems out of place, but I checked my local Audi dealer and a new resistor will set me back $200 (Norway for you!). Before I pay for this I went to make damn sure its the problem.

Driving back the fan worked again, but this time made the "whirring" noise. My question is that how could the noise be caused by a faulty resistor? Would this be a sign that it's actually the motor or something else? On the same note, it sometimes works perfectly which makes me think it's not the motor.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
