Default Audi A3 problem...possibly immobiliser...

Hi all. I have an Audi A3 1.6 (1997). I have left it standing a while as it needs some work done to it and the battery has gone flat. So I tried to jump it, firstly using another car and then by using a battery pack. Both of these gave the car some power as I was able to wind the windows down etc but the car did not start. Could this be due to the immobiliser kicking in? If so, how do I get round this?

I saw on another forum the following:

1. Leave ingition off
2. Press the two small buttons in front of the speedometer at the same time.
3. Now turn on the ignition with both buttons held down.

I tried this and nothing. Or is that just a myth? So any suggestions would be great.

Many thanks, Chris.

the pressing 2 buttons is for resetting the service light,
to check if the immobiliser is working put the key in and watch the LED it should flash 3 times then go off if it dosnt you need VAG to reset it .

edit: put key in and switch the ignition on ( mainly fully charge the battery up ) or fit a new one because a flat battery will set the immobiliser and no Wat to reset until the battery is good
