New to the site so first things first, "Hi". The A3 we've just bought my GF is the first Audi I've owned, big fan of german motors but have generally had BM's.

Anyway we made the leap to an A3 and I've gotta say it's very nice car, probably better that the equive BM to be fair. it's a 52 reg 2ltr TDI with a few little extras.

So we've had a few problems with it after just a few days of owning it. The car struggled from time to time to start. I gave the starter a wack and away she went so we put it down to a doddy starter and changed it. That worked for like 24hrs before the problem reaccured. I've had a little peep at the ring gear and the teeth look pretty okay to me. A few of them look a little chewed up but enough to case a problem ???? maybe maybe not!

My mate has had the fuse box out because we thought it might be a problem with some of the wiring, we found a few bad earths which we scrubbed up and replcaed but the problem still continues.

So what does it do.....
Hot or cold it may or may not start. Went it doesn't you a single tick like the starter is attempting to turn the ring gear but doesn't have the guts. Most of the time the car will eventually start but this morning she didn't want to go at all and now we're not even getting the tick as if the starter is at least trying. Has anyone had any similar problems with their A3.

what year is it?

 

After standing inside for three weeks while i was on holiday my Audi A3 sport Tdi will start first thing in the morning then it will not start, when it does start ive taken it for a run, return back and it wont start, frustrating!! When it does start there is no problem with it whatsoever it's showing no fault on a diagnostic machine either.......help!!!

 

04 plate, iv'e had it from new and never had a problem before.
