Good morning all. I have a 2000 a3 1.9tdi that has had an intermittent starting problem. It has been to a few garages who have been unable to diagnose the fault as no fault codes are showing up. It broke down again on Monday , we were recovered and the mechanic suggested it was an immobiliser issue. However I have been told if it was the car would start and cut out after a few seconds.

One thing I have noticed is that the glow plug light does not come on when the car refuses to start. I've seen this mentioned on a vw forum and it turned out to be the 109 relay.
Does my tdi have this relay and if so would it be located under the steering column as with a vw golf tdi?

All sorted now. One £10 relay later and the car is working. Just wish I tried that before shelling out severak hundred pounds on garages to try and fix the problem.
