Brake Pads on A3 S Line
Hi
I have a 2011 A3 S Line and was wondering does this car have a brake pad sensor which will warn me when they need changing, im not sure if my pads need changing the other day it sounded like it was grinding abit when applying my brakes but didnt hear anything since last week.
Could this be a sign of wetness around the disc brake ?
Also what brand would you recommend for future reference ?
Thanks

My 2007 s-line A3 had pad sensors. The problem is I would never rely on them completely even if you know you have them. If you want to be safe - take the wheel off and check how much pad you have left (also gives you a good idea when to start saving for a replacement).
Usually you do not have to replace front and rear at the same time since the rears last a lot longer - however check both to make sure you don't start grinding.
Occasionally I get grinding noises as well but so far it has always been dirt or rocks or something else that got stuck shortly in the brakes.
At 70k I replaced both front and rear with new pads rotors and went with Akebono pads/Zimmeran rotors. They have been pretty good and very low dust (daily driver only)! If you are more into racing - check out the Hawk and EBC.
Good brands:
Hawk
EBC
Akebono
Zimmerman
Be careful with the stylish and awesome looking rotors that are cross drilled and slotted. They look amazing (in my opinion) with the right rims but most of them have issues where they start cracking under stress, avoid them unless you really need them and then make sure you spend enough money so you have reliable braking!
