Default Cassette? This is 2006!!!

I am pondering purchasing the A3 and I am 99% certain I will but I can't help to be mindboggled by the fact that when you buy the audio package for some serious $$$$ you will be the proud owner of a cassette/tape deck!!! I think it says something about a company that insists on this outdated feature -- it certainly doesn't go with Audi new progressive image...
Am I the only one that think this is odd?

Heh...I thought the same when I bought my A4. I haven't even used it since I don't have any old/jurassic tapes to put in it, but I am thinking of getting a tape adapter for my Ipod

I'm actually glad to have a cassette deck. I have an IPod adapter that I use since I can't hook up an external source, since I have satellite radio. Also, we sometimes use books on tape that we get from the library. Instead of removing the cassette deck, add another external source outlet.

My $.02

I had a Sony changer fitted in the rear and the number of times it locks up or skips is unreal.
Maybe Audi thinks the tapes will be a comeback after all and stuck by it!
Didn't know of the cassette to I-pod adapter thing though.

I love that dealers like VW and Audi keep the tape option. It really doesn't sacrifice anything. Of course, I would prefer adding an auxilliary 1/8" audio input standard, but the tape adapter is the next best thing as far as playing iPods or MP3 players through the stereo system. Epecially since AUDI is too cheap to pay for the licensing option that allows the iPod track name to be displayed through the standard stereo interface (like BMW and Mercedes) seriously crippling the iPod interface.

U should listen to those vocabulary or fat lose tapes when u drive - like Homer Simpson use to

Is it one of those tape decks that take the big cassettes like in the movie Men in Black?

I know wat u are say about tape decks, i'm glad i have the Nav+ in my car

Acura and some others are sticking with the tape too. BMW has a cool thing inside the arm rest to plug in your mp3 player. It is pretty sweet.
