CEL Help! P0171 and 3rd brake light
Hello-first time user, 3rd Audi. 2006 A3 2.0T 86K had for a couple of months now. CEL keeps coming on. I have had the car in twice. 1st time they checked for leaks found none, cleared code and cleaned MAF. The after about 125 miles (road trip) the CEL comes on again, I go to pass a farm tractor and the light starts flashing and then the engine misfires like crazy! 2nd shops vag com isn't new enough to connect with my car but was able to determine my #3 coil was bad. Pulled plugs and they cleaned them up and put em back in. Two coils are still factory ones so another had failed before. Cleared the codes (P0171 and multi misses cly #2 and 3). Drove car another 200 miles and CEL is back on. Scanned it, same thing P0171. Any ideas would be great. I am trying to find someone near me with a vag com that can read my car-all I have is OBD II scanner.
The other issue I have is my 3rd brake light won't work. I took all the plastic off the rear hatch and everything was plugged in. I tryed to remove the strip but couldn't get. Felt like I was going to break it off. Has anybody removed this or had to replace it? If so how? Is there a fuse for that brake light? The other brake lights work fine and there is no indication on the computer that its not functioning?

Did you ever resolve your P0171 issue? I am struggling with the same thing. CEL is on, I have had itt cleared and keep getting the P0171 Error, as well as the random P0300 - misfires on bank 3. I am considering new coil packs. Car seemingly runs fine at speed, but at idle is chugging, popping and sputtering. I can't detect any vacuum leaks, but I did change the PCV valve anyway.

yes I did resolve it finally, it took almost 4 months and a VAG COM...after replacing the plugs and coils it turned out to be a leak in the air intake system, the breather assembly was bad allowing to much vacuum to crankcase and boost to crankcase. New pressure regulator valve and it was good to go. Getting the correct one was difficult. Ended up getting mine from California (part # 06F 129 101F and a gasket part # 06F 103 483E). Good luck and I hope this helps.
