Complete Noob '06 A3 Xenon Upgrade Question - PLEASE HELP!!
Hey guys - I'm brand new to these forums, and really have a simple question that is basically going to expose me as a painfully naive fool
, but here goes. I have an '06 A3 2.0T with factory installed halogens. For the last few weeks I've been doing research on using a 4300K H11 retro-fit kit (from xenondepot) to install xenon's on my low beams. Here are my questions:
- Does the '06 A3 have projector halogen headlamps or reflectors? I know the '07 has projector halogens, but I wasn't sure about the '06.
- Has anyone done this upgrade and encountered the "low beam failure" warning, and if so, have you successfully used the extra error-suppresing wires?
- Any preferences out there for 4300K vs. 5000K? I'm leaning towards 4300 for an OEM look, but could be persuaded otherwise.
Thank you all a million times in advance. I really appreciate ANY help anyone can provide!

Have you tried searching? I know I saw a post within the last month or two about a retrofit. There was also a post from someone who bought the OEM bi-xenon housings and replaced his halogens. I would personally suggest doing that. I've heard so many negative things about retrofit kits, from questionable overall quality to shoddy electrical connections to poor light output pattern. Good luck though, whatever you decide to do.
stick to oem replacements. While a used product obviously has some risk, my professional opinion would be you are much better grabbing a used d2s setup off ebay than getting any new aftermarket part, (unless its from hella or comparable in which case it would be WAY too expensive...)
I have an 01 a6 and did just this. I posted a very detailed thread on this build, search for it... The whole process took me 2 days but that was a lot of experimenting.
