Default Dent removal

i went to local body shop to get dent on the back roof panel fixed.
after getting an estimate they wanted to repaint the whole panel because they said its required if you want to get that dent fixed.

is that really necessary ? do you think paint less dent removal service can fix this ?
like removing headliner and fix from the inside without having repainting the whole panel.

thanks

It wouldn't hurt to get an estimate from a paintless dent removal guy. It's a lot cheaper than the body shop.

I've had great results with Dent Wizard. I've used them several times in the past on my other cars for door dings. The one by me in MA is reasonably priced and very quick. Check out their site. There's a location finder there that should be able to point you to numerous stores or dealerships that deal with them. If you can, go to a retail location over a dealership for the work...it'll be cheaper and they'll have their setup in place rather than working out of a truck. Note, paint-less dent removal can only do so much. I think there's a limit dependent on the proximity of the dent to the edges of the panel and what type of dent it is. Best of luck.

The guy I went to gave me a "rough" estimate. The rates are based on the size of the dent, something like 1"x1" for the base rate and then an additional cost per square inch or whatnot over that. I don't 100% remember the rates, but I do remember that I was pleasantly surprised when I got the final bill (some 40 min later). It was under the "rough" estimate that I was given, by a fair amount. My tech packaged the all the individual dents into 1 "dent" and priced it as such rather than listing several different dents, which would have cost much more (I had a few dings that were on the same door panel). Hopefully your tech is as good as the guy I dealt with...I've recommended several people to him and all have had excellent experiences. Sorry I can't be more specific with the #s. It's been a couple of years since I've been there, however I'll be paying a visit this spring to clear up a couple fresh door dings
