Desparately need snow tires
Hi all,
I just bought an Audi A3 TDI with the titanium sport package which means I have 225/40/18 tires. The all-seasons which come with the car absolutely suck in the snow. I NEED snow tires (I live in the mountains). Any favorites? I'm considering Nokian and Blizzaks currently.

Go Blizzaks thats what I have and I love them up here in Montana. Also when you get them go with the 205/60/16 they work so much better and then you will have to have new rims too but worth it when you dont have to go to a tire shop to have your tires switched twice a year. Check out Tirerack they are probably having a sale on snow tires now and cheep alloy rims.
Amy,
I agree with 4RINGSROD whole-heartedly, but one minor heads up.. typically you should only go down one size when you go with winter tires.. So, if you really have 18" tires, you should bounce down to 17" and not all the way down to 16" wheels.
I can understand why 4RINGSROD would say 16", because the stock A3 2.0T comes with 17" wheels, and that's what mine has too for summer configuration. Your TDI w/the sports package is obviously rocking the bigger wheels (I'm jealous)...
TireRack.com should walk you through all that though...
I am currently using Bridgestone Blizzak ws60 series tires, and I'm very happy so far with them (I live in Madison wi where we get PLENTY of snow)
.. If you need snow tires that are rated at 90mph+ go with the Bridgestone Blizzak LM series I believe -- again TireRack has all the info
Cheers!

I hope you've resolved it by now, but having a second set of wheels with winter tires pays off. I had a summer set from an A4 on my MkV Jetta and the stock wheels have Blizzak LM-25's. With the A3 in the driveway having stock wheels shod with crappy 3 season tires I'll be happier and safer with the VW's wheels. I'm in Madison too.
