DIY: stereo speaker change-out.
Even with Crutchfield's supllied bracket it is going to require some patience and a drill. As for the tweeters, I just took the stock ones out, put some filler (bubble wrap, towel, whatever) in behind the A-piller and set the new ones in the same place and pooped the tweeter cover back in place.

reference - can you post exactly what models you isntalled? I have the basic audio system too and would love to do this upgrade if it improves the sound.

I guess I didn't answer all your questions.
Did you modify anything? I had to do some drilling on the crutchfield supplied brackets and some to the door panel. There was another option. I could have used epoxy to hold the speakers to the brackets, similar to the stock setup, but I like being able to re-use my sound equipment when I change vehicles.
Does it still look stock? Yes, no one would know.
Does it sound better? Yes, much better!!!
Total installation wasn't bad, but you need to make sure you connect all the wiring back completely in the doors.

just fitting speakers with a standard system does nothing but cost you and good luck
