DV's i pulled away from a brand new golf gti in my 1998 A3 1.8T
I fitted a Baileys dump valve 2 my A3 but what a mistake, because its a single piston dump valve it messed up the idle of the car causing the engine 2 loose power and the brakes 2 go soft. You cant feel the bottom end power anymore which is much needed in a turbo car, it basically feels like a evo 9 turbo when u floor it in 5th gear, but the only good point is that it picks up alot quicker, for example when i take the engine round to 6000rpm in 2nd and then change into 3rd it only drops to pretty much bang on 5000rpm so it picks up so much more! But i replaced it with the original dump valve which makes enough noise and performs better as it is to the spec of the car anyway! I recently raced a brand new golf, it was the 2 litre i think, the guy said it was the fastest new gti you can buy brand new. we both started off in 1st and obviously floored it! It was pretty even untill the turbo kicked in at a very early stage then i was off! 2nd gear came into action soon enough, which i think is the best gear of the audi A3 as you can nearly hit the British national speed limit in a matter of seconds! Then 3rd gear, i looked across at this point and i was a whole car length in front of him, i carried on through the rest of the gears and had to slow down at 130mph as the road was ending pretty sharpish!lol but after 3rd gear i pulled away from him so much, i think this is down to the A3's 5speed gear box and that it has that bit extra power rather than the 6speed which is a shorter ratio so gear changes are more frequent which effects the performance! I jus wana know if any1 else has noticed this?
