Default Fuel problem (?)

Hi all

I would really appreciate some advice on a problem that I'm getting. I own a 1998 S Reg A3 1.8 T Sport, approx. 75K on the clock.
Recently, it's giving me an acceleration issue wherby there is just not 100% power coming through.

It doesn't do this at any specific time so it can be totally random. ie It'll do it from cold or when temp is normal, any gear, there is no definate time when it occurs. I have had it on a diagnostics machine at an Audi dealer on about 5 seperate occasions but that shows nothing. Also, I have recently replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coils but to no avail.

So, I'm thinking it's fuel related. I've used a bottle of Redex and the fuel I am using is Optimax (admittedly, I did use supermarket fuel for 6 months but it did do it even before then!) and none of these hav proved successful.

If anyone's got any ideas or tips, then please let me know!

Cheers

You may want to change the fuel filter. Also try changing the spark plugs.

Supermarket fuel is fine, more than good enough for a standard car.

I'd check the diverter valve out, might be splitting. Check all the turbo hoses and make sure all the plugs are on securely.

Has the car got heavier on fuel since it started doing it? Or is it using any oil?

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The oil is fine, hardly any loss whatsoever. As for the fuel, I would say that it has increased consumption since it first started doing it, yes. As for specific amounts, it's hard to say but I'm sure I don't get as many miles out of a tank than I used to but could that not be down to age?

I'll look into the diverter valve and see if I can see anything there.

Thanks again
