Default iPod options for A3?

Either my search is busted or there are no thread (although I remember seeing one a few weeks ago on this).

What are my options for iPod in an A3? The A3 I'm thinking about buying has the CD changer in the glove box. Can I remove the CD changer, hook up an adapter and user the CD Changer for an iPod?

Yep. Exactly. The GROM AUDIO setup on ebay for $69.99 can be had with the CD changer "trunk" cable that plugs right in and you're done. Easy as pie. And you can sell the CD changer for maybe $200 to boot.

w@ntonsoup - you say trunk but the CD changer I'm referring to is in the glove box. Same thing? Do the songs on the iPod show up on the Nav system if you go with the setup you're talking about?

Yes, it is the right cable. I think maybe some models (A4?) have the CD changer in the trunk and that's why it's called a trunk cable.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the iPod interface sees the iPod as a CD changer, so it shows your playlists as CD1, CD2, etc and the songs as Track1, Track2, etc. I don't think there are any out that actually show the song title.

Yep - they call it a trunk cable because a lot of CD changers are in the trunk area (ahh the good old days) but it's just a CD changer cable. Mine arrives today!

You are correct. But I think this is an IPOD API limitation more then AUDI. Plug your IPOD in any stereo dock and you won't see the title either...

If you ask me, its very annoying not to see the song title/artist. I prefer using plain old cd loaded with mp3s on it.

Yep, AUDI doesn't read the ipod info. But you can control it with the steering wheel controls. Life goes on

Not sure what API stands for, but the aftermarket (Alpine, Pioneer, etc.) has had full iPod integration for 4-5 years now. The iPod is definitely capable of sending ID3 info to the head unit. In fact, I think most higher end Audis with the true MMI head unit can display this info. I think the A3 is just stuck with an outdated/under-featured unit.

I agree.
