K&N Typhoon Kit?

K&N Typhoon Kit?
Seeing all of the K&N adds on the page I checked out the A3 options. Saw this kit: 69-9503TFK
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...rod=69-9503TFK
Has anyone run this? Looks like it can be picked up for around $200.
Or run this in conjunction with a Stage 1 flash?

RE: K&N Typhoon Kit?
ok, here is a question...how come HP gains on different Intake systems vary so much. I have neuspeed and i supposedly get gains of 7-9 HP. This K&N gives you 18 roughly. So how is this variance possible when they are basically the same product. Evoms, Neuspeed, and K&N intakes look EXACTLY the same.

I concur. Its the same setup. Could come down to the diameter of piping, however, with AFR preset in the ecu, you can only force so much air in before it starts to throw tha ratios off balance. I just dont buy 18+/-hp from k&n. Not saying I doubt their product, but think about it. NS has their extension pipe fitting behind the foglight, making it a "true cold-air intake". I dont see any claims of higher hp gains.
Simply put, I just bought the NS intake tuesday. Whats funny is, that K&N did dyno testing with that setup. However if you simply search through their product listings for 2.0T A3, all you get is their drop in filter. I had to search the 07 GTI's to come across that setup... which later shows that the dyno testing was completed on a 2.0t A3.

Iuse their drop-ins (first mod on most of my cars), and you're right, there might be small variances between the brands-but 18.6 HP? No way! [:'(]How do they getaway with that? [sm=bs.gif]
Good price, but I've never seen or heard of anyone using K&N systems on our engines.
Those K&N instructions look like you end up with no engine cover, so I'm thinking of NS or Evoms because they make covers togo with their CAI's.

RE: K&N Typhoon Kit?
Chef was the tester for the prototype of the K&N intake, and if I remember correctly he said they dyno'ed his car with the chip tune and also tweaked the A/F map on top of that to produce 18.6 HP. I think 6-8 is probably closer to what you'll get on a stock 2.0T. IMHO, K&N makes great products, but they do exaggerate their power numbers a bit. Should be in line with most other intakes as they're all about the same design.
If Chef sees this, maybe he can elaborate (or clarify anything I've mis-quoted )

And that is my A3 in the picture. There is no way you'll get 18hp from this filter. Sorry.
But, it does fit and work very well and I think it is right in line with the other short ram intakes for our car.
Cheers!
