Default Lift gate latch?

The switch on the drivers' side door panel unlatches the lift gate but the gate does not open as is the case on our other cars. Is this the way it is supposed to work on the 2012 A3 or are the struts defective?

Thanks in advance.

That appears to be the way it's designed -- my 2010 does the same thing. Over at TDIclub.com, I've read about a guy who had a similar issue with the Jetta Sportwagen, and added some springs to boost the gas struts.

Thanks. I suspect that you are correct. My '09 Jetta sedan trunk lid opens all the way when I pop the latch. The Benz and the Bimmer do tjhe same.

I'd like to know more about the auxiliary springs the guy added to the gas struts. Sounds like a good idea.
