We have a 1994 Audi 100CS Avant. The tailgate latch has failed and in the process of replacing it, I am wondering if it is possible to exchange the tailgate on this car with a tailgate from a 1997 Audi A6 Avant. I have an identical tailgate that may be available to me which is in considerably better condition than mine, and it appears to be identical. The part numbers according to Audi are different, but I wonder if the item are really different.

Changing the tailgate latch itself appears to be difficult also, so I might be better off just swapping out the tailgate itself as I would also gain a working wiper/washer unit at the same time.
