Default Limited key range

So I just got my new Audi A3 the other week and I've noticed the effective range on my electronic door locking key is not greater than 10 feet. Between 30 and 10 feet the key seems to work only about 5 percent of the time.
I tried both of my keys, and they act exactly the same, which almost rules out a weak battery. I then thought that maybe this is caused by the receiving unit in my car being faulty, or maybe this is some new security measure, I really don't know.
I'm planning on taking my car in to have the rubber mat in the dash fixed (there is a big bubble in it) in about a week so I was going to ask the service manager about it then.
In the meantime if anyone has experienced the same thing or has any idea of what could be wrong i would really appreciate some input here.

Can't say I've noticed that with my 2010 A3; I regularly get 40-50 feet out of it, and it often works through the glass door of my office.

Yea I can unlock the doors on my 2007 A3 from so far away that by the time I get to the car the doors lock again. On the other hand my 12 year old truck I have to be right on top of it. So I'm guessing it might be the battery in the key fob. Those fobs are expensive so have it checked out while in warranty

I really hope it's just the batteries. I'm taking the car in to the dealership's service center tomorrow to get it checked out, but one of the service guys told me if the keys are defective it could a while for them to fabricate duplicate keys and get them to me. Or if the receiving unit is messed up that could take a little while to fix too.
