HI all.

Slight power problem hence the username. My A3 1.8T has approx 80,000 on the clock. When accelerating through the gears, the Turbo will kick in nicley as always but then at around 3500 rpm there is a distinct lack of power all the way through the revs. The turbo sounds perfectly healthy and you can hear it boostinig all the way through but the effect it ha son power through the range is intermittent/stuttery and not having its usual affect.

Any thoughts. It feels asif something is controlling it like the ECu but then it could be a leaky boost pipe. A starnage one!! I've heard of a coil pack but don't know what that is. The Air Filter and sparks were all replaced in service last month.

Yeah I did.

MOst of the time it seems that the Coil Packs have gone or the fuel pressure pump. I took it to agarage and they said it might be the fuel pressure pump as it was only kicking out 2.5 bar as opposed to 3.5 bar pressure. They said it would cost £350 atleast for a problem that may not exist.

I told them not to bother - a day later the indicator failed and then the elec windows would not go down on automatic (I had to hold the button down). Turns out that the alternator had gone about two weeks prior and because i was only doing short journeys using minimal elec, the battery light didn't come on.

Just so happens that the fuel pressure pump was the first to suffer from a weakened battery.

Saved me a lot of money.

 

In the US there is no A3 1.8, just the 2.0 - i'm pretty sure.
