hi, after having my a3 1.6 se for a few weeks now, i have noticed that i am forever filling it up, i can only get 300 miles out of one tank, which would be fine but it means i have to drive like an old man. IS THIS RIGHT? its working out at like 26mpg, what could it be? (no sign of a fuel leak)

 

thats nothing my zetec-s was doing 180miles to a tank and running at 18mpg standard i could never work out its problem it had no leak and defo no air leak in the filler cap

 

keep revs down and keep foot off the throttle keep it light the more u open that air valve the more fuel u burn gotta be gentle not always hold on the throttle

 

traditionally a new cars mpg will improve just a bit as it breaks in.....
What were the factory numbers for mpg on your a3?

And it is all relative...i would kill for 26...i'm getting 18.8.....

 

so boring to drive like that tho. and i think the 1.6 are emant to do about 36mpg. costing a fourtune already i spent all my money on the car

 

dont forget thats your combined total not your urban driving if thats all you do if u get me

look in your handbook it will tell you

 

my 1.8 only does about 250 to a full tank.

 

only getting between 500 - 600 out of a tank with my 2.0tdi

 

500- 600 lucky poo. nah its just i know that the car is old, and i think the head gasket is on its way out, so was wondering it might actually be something that was causing it to drink.

 

Ha ha I get 400-430 miles on a tank with a 2.8 on my A6 quattro wagon.

Oh wait, I have a 19.6 gallon tank.

Well that is still 22 miles per gallon. I am almost as good as an A3. Except when I have 7 people in my wagon.
