Well at 22mpg, you're doing as good as my A3. I can't seem to get the mileage above 22mpg even when I drive at 2k rpm and lightly use the throtle. What's up with that and the 25mpg city/ 32mpg highway? I do about 65% highway and I can't get very good mileage. Anyone have the same problem?

Same here. No mather how i'm driving(or where) i can't go more then 350 miles /tank.So my best milage was about 25/26 miles /gallon. How did they come up with those numbers25/city , 32/highway ?

With my 2006 A3, manual, I'm getting 25mpg avg. everytime. That's driving the 405 between Redondo Beach and the Valley four times a week. Although, I just took the car up to Yosemitey this weekend and got 28.6 avg. with a bike on top and avg. 90mph on hwy. I'm happy with that and about 50 miles of excellent, twisting, mountain roads.

I used to have a 1998 1.6 A3 which got 30mpg, and 35mpg on motorway's. The Audi statistics for MPG suggest getting 39mpg, which I could never achieve, even if I tried driving like an old man - which wasn't often!

I could get around 380miles from a tank if running it pretty far into the reserve. My current 1.8T achieves about 320miles to a tank, or 380miles on motorways. The petrol A3 has a fuel tank size of 55 litres, and when you reach the reserve and the petrol light turns on, the manual says you have 7 litres of fuel left in the tank - have you accounted for the reserve capacity?

If my A4 can do 33+ mpg, I would think the A3 which is lighter could do better right?
check out this thread if it wasn't for the LA traffic, I believe my car could have done 35mpg

Now that I have moved back to the OC, I am getting 22 or 23 mpg, about half local and half freeway driving, but not long distances. When I was commuting from LA to OC, I got about 27mpg, even with heavy (but not the absolute worse as I lived in LA and work in the OC) traffic.

My trip up from Irvine to Torrance to visit ECodeTuning should have shown good MPG, but then I had to WOT about 10x to test the chip and get logged data, so MPG was shot.

I would have to point out that 1 gallon (UK) = 1.2 gallon (US) though; that's quite a bit of difference.

remember the elevation of where you are from sea level (it really makes a different) things have to be calibrated for that you know

Fuel grade can make a big difference also. I understand from another thread that fuel octane levels in California are very low compare to UK anyway, 87 RON (95 normal and 99 super). This would mean the engine running with less advance and reduced power and fuel efficiency.

I'm not sure if altitudde would affect the MPG reading as such, as I belive the ECU calculates mpg every 30metres and then averages it. And mpg will simply be calculated from the summation of injection duration over that period and normalised to an mpg reading.

At higher altitudes the air is less dense, and so you lose effective volumetric efficiency and hence power, but the Mass Airflow meter in the inlet manifold (as well as the Lambda sensor) will account for this and reduce injection duration/timing in line with that. You would probably see a slight drop in mpg, but the ECU will account for that.

I got about 400 miles from my tank.
I'm aware that most people are using 91-Octane but I'm running with 93-Octane though.
I put on about 100 + miles everyday by commuting on highways going at about 80+ mph.
I don't know if that's good enough for using 93 though.
Any Comments?
