Default New wheels, would I need spacers?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and reading loads of your frequently asked questions, some of it goes way over my head!
I do a bit of self servicing the filters on my car, but that's about it.

I currently have 16" audi alloys as standard on my 56 plate A3. (2.0 TDI 140)

Since im in need of 4 new tyres, Ive started lookin for some upgrades, 18's sound good to me!

Would these from ebay go straight on without problem?
Do I need some sort of spacers or something? If so, how much do they cost? Is there anything I gotta look out for when buying new wheels?

Also, does the car need anything changing like the odometer to match the new circumference?

Cheers!

On a side question, if I upgrade my wheels like this, do they affect braking at all?
