oil stick question
So, since the last time I had the "MIN OIL" light come on, I have been a bit paranoid with the oil consumption on my A3. I got my 2nd oil change at 11,000 miles, which was about 1 month ago.
Now I have about 13,000 miles and decided to check my oil. Waited about 3000 miles to check my oil stick.
Took out the oil dip-stick and it appears to be on the "min" level. With only a slight amount of oil on the "min" level.
So, I decided to put about 1/2 quart of oil, just to top it off a bit. Mobile1 0W 40 Synthetic.
Is this a good thing? Or was it OK not to top it off and leave it at "min" level.
After I added the 1/2 quart of oil, the dip-stick now shows the oil being a good amount over the "min" level, but not to "max" level.
Can you go all the way up to "max"? Or is that a little much with oil? I just dont want to over do it with the adding of oil, but from me only seeing a little oil on the "min" level, it just looked like it needed some more oil.

RE: oil stick question
Thanks for the info.
Since I was parked on my driveway, which is INCLINED a bit, instead of thinking smart and checking my oil on a flat surface, I think I may have not needed a 1/2 quart of oil.
I checked it again on a flat surface after I added the oil, and its now near the "MAX" level.
I think I may have added oil and it wasnt really necessary. Will this be an issue?
Or is an extra 1/2 quart not to much of a big deal?

RE: oil stick question
My '07 A3 has just over 14k and I just had the 15k service done. I had to add two quarts of oil between 5k and current mileage. Dealer says its an issue in the 3's and 4's. I know the car isn't burning oil, but the dealer assures me it's not a problem. I don't know about that. I mean where is the oil going? I'd like to have a definitive answer. Meanwhile, I'll keep an eye on it and extra oil in the rear hatch.
BTW - I really like my A3. Was concerned at first because I traded an A4 for it, but it's been the most fun car I've driven since my '86 GTI.

RE: oil stick question
I dont know if chef has this in the newbie section but guys you must not wait for a thousand or so miles to pass before you check your oil level. Turbo engines burn oil like there is no tommorow compared to non turbo . rule of thumb is to check it @ every fill up of the gas tank. Sorry did not mean to preach good luck. P.S. when mine gets low i add a whole quart, not to worry.
