Optimal Cruising Speed/RPM

Optimal Cruising Speed/RPM
The other day, I was on a short road-trip in my 2007 A3 2.0t. My route was mostly on a very level, flat ground and while staring at my trip computer and realtime MPG and I started to wonder...
What is the optimal speed and/or RPM to achieve highest MPG in this car?
Has anyone ever figured this out?
I ended up my trip averaging about 70 mph and 32.5 MPG. I thought that was interesting since it is well above the published specs for the car. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences they would like to share?

Rory,
I have experience the same thing that you have i currently drive 50 miles one way to work and have also found thaat if I set the cruise at 70 I will get between 30 and 32 mpg, anything higher or lower and I will get between 26 and 29. My average since feburary when I purchased the car has been about 27.5 mpg. A lot of my days are in the 80+ range.
