Good to know. One of the guys I work with is seriously considering one of those 1 coupes. Just as soon as he can take one out for a spin - he'll probably get one. I wonder how often this happens and we don't heara thing about it.

What really get's me gander up about this is that BMW said that they would fix the cars and sell them. I bet they will not be obligated todisclose the accidentonce it gets to the dealership - that's if those guys even know. As someone has pointed out to me - since there is no official title change or ownership records on these cars just yet - they probably will not come up as accident claims in CarFax. 'Sides, who checks up VIN's on CarFax for new cars from a dealership? Just more to chew on.

wow, not matter what, I would NOT want a car from that batch. I don't care if they total some, and fix the damage on the others or not.

They will sell the cars as new with no record on CarFax. We recently found out that my wifes accord had the same thing happen to it. Last year, after a snow plow scraped my wifes rear bumper. When we took it into our local honda stealership(not where we bought it) to get it fixed, they noticed that the rear bumper didn't have the original cars VIN number stamped on it. They told us that most of major body parts should have the OEM VIN numbers on it from the factory. After the stealership did some digging around within their systems, they did confirm that the rear bumper was damaged during transport and replaced then sold as new.

I guess the only thing to do is have them confirm in writing that if u a certain car their is no prior history like this one before buying a car. Nowadays MOST parts on a car have the VIN's stamped on it. I couldn't swap out my OEM rims for a different style when I bought my A3 because my rims (and all audi rims after 2007) had the cars original VIN stamped on it.
