Default Question about the rear view mirror

I have an 07 3.2 with the auto dimming mirror. I'm thinking of having installed in my car a Mito auto dimming mirror with Homelink. here's the link. http://www.mitocorp.com/flash/homeli...ingmirrors.htmI found a local installer and the price isn't too expensive but the installer asked me if the Audi has a cam mount mirror. Does anyone know if the A3 has a cam mount for the mirror?

I don't know about the cam mount, but I am told that the homelink doesn't always work with all garage/gate systems because there are SO many out there. My local dealer doesn't keep them in stock, it is a special order item so therefore non-refundable if I get home and the homelink is not compatible with my garage/gate systems. I don't know about your local dealers specifics but it's something to think about.

I've never heard that - I've had Homelink on virtually every vehicle for maybe 10 years (and for me, that's a lot of vehicles) and through at laest 6 different garage doors. Simple to setup, always works.

That said, don't spend hundreds to install it. You can buy just the unit itself on ebay and give it any simple power source in the headliner and you're done.

Yea, Homelink works on a lot of differentopeners. I had it dealer installed in my wife's 03 BMW 330i and it works fine on my garage doors. The only issue I had was with an X10 remote light that I couldn't get it to work on.

As far as getting one on e-bay, I'm not very handy and I don't want it to look like $hit, so the hundreds of dolors will be well spent.

My original door/gate opener uses the dip switch technology. It's a two button remote with the code set by two 10-dip switch blocks. Any thoughts as to whether the Homelink will be compatible with my gate system and garage door system?

I can't fathom spending that much money to just avoid having a regular garage door opener installed. Maybe you would be able to live with the aesthetics of a keychain garage door opener?

Yeah, $500 is a lot of coin for a garage door opener.

I might do something like this...

You honestly don't even need to buy the Homelink if you don't want to. You can literally put a real regular garage door opener in your glovebox, under the dash, wherever, and solder in a simple 50-cent push button switch from Radio Shack, and mount that switch anywhere.

Actually, the unit is about $250 and the install is about $75. I spent about $35k to get the car already, I can afford to spend $325 more. I saw that link already. I don't have the skills or the desire to do that. I rather pay someone to make it look right instead of DIYing it myself and having it look half a$$ed. So not to sound rude since I'm a noobie, but does anyone have an answer to my original question? Does the mirror have a cam mount? I've disided to do it, I just need to know if it's possible.

Lou, can you take it to the installer to see if its possible? Or is it too far away for him just to look at the mount? Are you buying the mirror online? Or through the installer?
