Chef, that must have been an error in your manual. From what I have read on the interweb, that option actually won't be available until the redesigned model comes out in Juvember.

 

Yes, the compass mirror is new for the model in 2008 year. My 2007 had it in the manual, but not on the car. It magically appeared when I turned on my new 2008 A3 and it was a welcome surprise! While driving in Germany, and our nav system wouldn't work over there, it actually became quite helpful. Very bright and easy to see!

 

heheh I would kind of like that option as well, but I really don't need it considering I have nav... Still I would love to have it... add a cool touch to the interior. I would also love to have rotating rear view mirrors such as the once on A4.... booo.. Oh well.. Think I will live...

 

Actually it's an option on the 2006 as well, if you trust the manual.

 

Hmm...anyone know for sure if it's possible to retrofit a 2007 with the 2008 compass mirror?

 

I'm willing to be the guinea pig if someone can find me a part no. I'll figure out some way to make it work! Probably just needs a switched 12v.

 

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I assume the compass is in the mirror itself so all you would need is a new 08 mirror. Really curious to see how it turns out if "guinea pig" BAMF can git the part!

 

The install won't likely be difficult. Spending HUNDREDS of dollars to do what an item from Wal-Mart can do? That will hurt.
