Default Right Headlight Dipped

About a week ago I started getting this error- Right Headlight Dipped. The manual says it could be any one of 3 problems. The curious thing is that the problem isn't always there, it comes and goes (mystery). About everyday it will happen, and I have looked at the headlight, it usually looks normal, but sometimes the light goes out, so only 1 headlight... this uckkks.

So the dealership service guys (excellent so far) say's if we can't get it to display the problem they can't fix it. It wasn't acting up when I made the dealership appointment. He did go on to suggest that I drive straight to the dealership when it happens again or I could leave it with them for a day so they could check it periodically. Ultimately, he said they would probably have to replace the headlight assembly (still under warranty).

Does this sound right? Anyone else have this problem? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Might be due to something loose with bulb interface or something inside headlight assy. Take a picture of the failure, if it that rare so dealer has proof.

you have a grounding problem and best place to start is the headlight unit clean the wires up to the chassis which should be just behind the head light unit

Thanks, I photoed it, and it is super clean too... a short, that's a good idea. I thought maybe a loose connection. Do you think I'll have to take the assembly apart to check?

No just call your service adviser. Audi shouldn't be giving you run around now that you visible proof.

Just wondering if anyone found a fix for this. I just bought an 03 A4 2 days ago and I get this message and the dealer cant take it till Tuesday and I am not riding around with one headlight. The HI beams come on but its just the low beams that dont come on. Anyone have a particular brand of lights they like/prefer. Thanks

Hey,

Im having the same problem right now with the "Right Dipped Headlight" display and my right light turning off and on during travel. Did you ever find a fix for this?

I took my car into audi and told me it was because of some of the aftermarket components I have in the car. All i have is a starter/alarm , sub amp and in dash dvd player.

Audisaid the same thing when you took yours in, that they wont be able to do anything for me without the light staying on. Sometimes if the light flickers enough and comes on and off, it will eventually turn that light off completely, displaying the bulb with a X through it on the display.

Any suggestions?

I have the same issue but ont he left side.. for me it comes on and off only when I start then it goes off..
i took it to the dealer and they recommended to change the ignitor and along with it they recommended to change the bulb too. give me some kind of wiered explanation.. sayinf that if the bulb is not changed the new ignitor will send contant current and the back current from the bulb will not be enough to hold the new ignitor and so it may damage the ignitor..

is this all true or just bs..
