S-line sway bar

S-line sway bar
I talked to the dealer about getting a rear sway bar. He told me that the A3 S-line already has an improved suspension over a standard A3, and an aftermarket sway bar would be a waist of money beacuse it would not be an improvement over what is already on the car. Is this true?

I can tell you first hand, that is not true. I still have my old RSB. It looks puny compared to the Neuspeed I have now. Unless things have changed for the '07 / '08, there is a difference. If your not convinced, just measure the dia. and compare it to any aftermarked RSB.
And your dealer shouldn't care about changing out the RSB. As long as you are not tampering with the engine / trans (warranty in jeopardy stuff) , your cool. It's like putting on new wheels.

Dealer is full of crap. The Neuspeed RSB was a huge improvement over the sports suspension. Definitely stiffened things up to the point I can slide the rear end out if I work at it hard enough. The stock version wouldn't have come close. I have the stock bar in the garage and it is noticeably smaller. Actually, I'm very close to having another stock A3 sitting in the corner of my garage. LOL

Actually, I really like the S-Line suspension. If I changed anything on the suspension, I'd go poly rear bushings, the recently produced rear brace, and increase rear tire pressure a bit.
For me, I've had back end just slightly into oversteer a few times. First time took me by surprise somewhat. I'm use to rwd cars, so when it happened the first time, I wasn't in panic mode.
Stiffening the back on the fwd 2.0t will make the car more neutral, but for me it's already a good balance.
And I'm use to a/x and track days, on a fully modded suspension in a Miata.

Bezor talks like an autocrosser. To reduce understeer, addrear roll stiffness via poly bushings and about 3lbs more air in the rear. Well, he's right. You can get the poly bushings from Summit Racing for about $20. And while you're under there put in a $40ECS/Neuspeed dogbone at the rear of the transaxle to stop the windup and wheel hop on launch. These 2 modswill transform your car. I was thinking of coilovers and a Quaife diff for about $4K installed, but most of what I was looking for I got for for $60.
Full Disclosure: I'm an autocrosser with a RWD car also - 93 BMW 325is with a full coilover/stressbar/camber plate/custom DA Konis/Kumho V710s.
