Default Snow conditions?

I am going to be driving through the Sierras over christmas and have been wondering about traction options. The guy at Les Schwab told me I was pretty much out of luck as tire chains or studded snow tires can't be used on this car. Its this true? What have you done to upgrade your cars snow driving capability? Also, I have yet to drive it at all in the snow. How does it handle in snow compared to other front wheel drive cars?

Yep, you're not supposed to use chains on this car. Unfortunately, there are chain restrictions that go into effect on a lot of the Sierra's passes during a winter storm and you're not allowed up the pass without them. Catch-22.

I don't know anything about the rest since my car has always lived and driven through the south.

Good luck!
