For those in CA, Autosocks cannot be used in the mountains!
Off the Tirerack website - http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/.../autosock.jsp:
NOTE: AutoSock is not considered a traction device in severe snow conditions and cannot be substituted for chains for travel through mountain passes.
So I guess that settles it once and for all.
