Default RE: tinted split mirrors

Once again, TPE is right re: the best coverage. How do I know? I already have that setup, i.e., aspherical mirror on driver (left) side, and convex on passenger (right) side. Both mirrors are RoW (i.e., non-US) spec, and have heating grids, but I have not bothered to enable that function in VAG-COM yet. (No real need to do so in Southern Cal.)

I got both mirrors from www.vagparts.com.

Go to the above website, click on:

1. "enter our online shop"
2. "Product overview"
3. "Audi"
4. "A3 2003 onwards" (the 8P A3 was available in Europe much earlier)
5. "Exterior"
6. "Mirror glasses and covers"

The two you need to buy are (1) A3 03> LH blindspot mirror glass, and (2) A3 03> RH convex mirror glass. Ignore the pictures. When I got them it worked out to be approximately US $100 shipped, but with the US dollar tanking...

dfrost, I recommend that you just buy #2 above, assuming that you already have the OEM RoW LH aspherical mirror installed. You got to remember, the abovecombo is designed to work together, whereas, what you want to do (i.e., put US RH convex mirror back when you have a RoW LH aspherical mirror installed) is not.

Re: your original setup (i.e., aspherical mirrors on both sides), or any setup that use the same mirror on both sides, that just don't make any sense. Your eyes are NOT the same distance from the left vs. the right mirror, because you sit on one side of the car. I don't know why so many places, including oempl.us, sell two asphericals as a set. But $$$ wise, aspherical > convex > flat, so maybe that's why.

Hi Omni!

Yeah, I will be in Taipei...I'm permanent here! So, certainly, let me know if you are coming by!
And please please Trust A3 and me on the mirrors! Get the ROR convex for your passenger side and you will be pleased!

As for the heating component...oddly...in Taipei i do need it in the winter...when it's about 14 degrees and humid outside, then you go into a much warmer underground garage, and zam, condensation! Flick the heaters on, and by the time you need to park, the mirrors are already clear. Not essential, but a nice feature when you are parking in spots that are only a few centimetres wider than your car!
