If you are looking for a B5 S4 try to get a 2001.5 or 02. They fixed a lot of problems in 2001.5 and slapped the ESP on them, good and bad. 2000 was the first year and tend to be more problematic. It will also require a lot more maintenance and you'll have to sink some money into it. Since they're an older car they going to have higher mileage which leads to the 90k mile service (timing belt and water pump) and closer to the stock k03's failing... both arnt for penny pinchers. But its an awesome car and if you can take one for a spin you'll be blown away in every aspect.

ya you do have a good point. maybe i should just stick with a 2002-2005 A4 instead and dump some money into it...i know it wont be as fast or fun but ... i think the A3 and newer GTI might be too expensive ... what about the 03-04 R32s

Sorry to hear that. There really is a jinx on Audi Forums A3's. You are the third member that I am aware of whose A3 has been totaled. (Touching every wooden surface in office again.)
LOL, this is GOOD luck, not bad. Our 5 star crash ratings means we live to tell about it. BMW owners arn't so lucky.
